Though the Games are three years away, the Rwandans have launched a robust campaign to begin the build-up to the quadrennial sports summit.
The first salvo in that direction was fired at the weekend by the President of the Rwandan Judo Federation, Mr.Bishyika Christian through an appeal to all Rwandese judokas in the Diaspora to be part of the development of the sport.
A statement, signed by Mr. Christian made available to judoblitzng.com read “The Rwandan Judo Federation appeals to all judokas, male and female, from Rwanda living abroad to participate in the national project of development of judo in Rwanda.
“Since its inception in August 2011, the Rwandan Judo Federation has grown gradually and this year with the support of the Ministry of Sports and Culture, the National Rwandan Olympic Committee, the Commission Judo for Peace, the International Judo Federation and the French Association of CACI, we aim at taking it to a higher level through the creation of a competitive Judo discipline to prepare Rwandans for the Olympics scheduled 2016.
“So, if you are a judoka interested in waving the colours of your flag during international competitions, do not hesitate to contact us at judorwanda@gmail.com”.
The East African nation with this clarion call to her citizens abroad has kicked off the preparation for the Olympics.
